Mai-Ly Duong DMD, MPH
Dr. Mai-Ly (My-Lee) Duong received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and master’s in public health (MPH) from A.T. Still University. She serves as a full Professor and Director of Special Care Dentistry at the A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in The Center for Advanced Oral Health. She works to support students, residents, and faculty treating individuals with special needs and complex medical conditions. Dr. Mai-Ly completed a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry from NYU Langone Medical Center. Additionally, she completed a master’s in education (MAEd) with a dental emphasis from the University of the Pacific. Her many accomplishments and contributions to the dental profession has earned her recognition as an LLSR and Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), Fellowship in the Special Care Dentistry Association (FSCD), Fellowship in the American College of Dentists (FACD), Fellowship in the International College of Dentists (FICD), and Fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA).
Course Description
This introductory course reviews the fundamentals of cosmetic botulinum toxin treatment of the upper third of the face, including the glabellar region, forehead, and crow's feet. The lecture addresses facial lines and wrinkles, patient consultation and assessment, appropriate injection areas, and safety considerations. Participants will also review the potential risks, benefits, complications, and limitations associated with cosmetic botulinum toxin treatment.
Educational Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Describe appropriate safety protocols and identify common injection areas for botulinum toxin treatment of the upper third of the face.
2. Identify the anatomic and functional factors that contribute to facial lines, folds, and wrinkles relevant to botulinum toxin treatment.
3. Describe the essential components of a patient consultation and assessment for cosmetic botulinum toxin treatment.
4. Discuss the potential risks, benefits, complications, and limitations associated with cosmetic botulinum toxin injections.
